Thursday, March 24th - Traveling Day

We were up at 2 am and off to the airport at 3:00 arriving Park n Fly at 3:40. The shuttle followed us to our parking spot where it picked us up and got us to the terminal by 3:55. First we checked Lee and her luggage onto her Air Canada flight to Toronto / Charlotte / Fort Lauderdale. Then I checked onto my Continental Airlines flight to Houston / Fort Lauderdale. There was no line-up at either airline so the process was very quick and painless. Everything was done by 4:10.

Our cruise buddies for this adventure were Lee's brother Bob and our sister-in-law Shelly. They arrived at 4:30 and got checked onto the same flight as me with about the same amount of hassle. We then waited till 5 after which we went through to our respective gates. Lee was flying on AeroPlan so she got the milk run and was on her own for the day. Her arrival time in Fort Lauderdale was 10:15 tonight and the plan was for us to meet and pick her up at the airport. Hope all goes well and we see her again.

Bob, Shel and I went thru customs and security, then into the departure lounge to patiently wait for our 6:45 departure time. Lee lifted off at 6:30. Our departure was on time as well with an uneventful four-hour flight to Houston. Arrived on time with a 1 ½ hour layover, then onto another Continental flight for our final two-hour flight into Fort Lauderdale. Again, we arrived on time at 4:30 in the afternoon. After we picked up our luggage we had to wait an hour and a half for the shuttle to our hotel, the Best Western Fort Lauderdale Airport South. Got there around six and checked into our respective rooms which were actually quite nice.

After settling in at the hotel, we asked the desk where the best place was to get dinner. As they didn't have a restaurant on site they suggested a little place across the street, the Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine restaurant. We crossed a very busy roadway and sat down for a very good meal. After dinner it was back to the hotel to catch the shuttle back to the airport for Lee's 10:15 arrival. The shuttle driver dropped us at the wrong terminal but we did find the luggage carousal where we were supposed to meet Lee with 10 minutes to spare.

So Lee wouldn't miss us, we made up a sign to hold up with her name "Goofy" on it.  Sure enough, within ten minutes of her plane landing Lee came down the escalator.  After some amount of searching she saw our sign and happily reunited with us. From there it was a simple matter to pick up her luggage and jump back onto the hotel shuttle for the short ride back. After arriving we went up to our rooms, had a celebratory drink and off to bed by midnight.
